Integra Coal and Pegasus have quickly developed a very strong business relationship.
After initially employing us for one specific task, Pegasus now provides a suite of services to Integra Coal through three separate divisions - PegasusTraining, Pegasus Safety and Pegasus Employment.
In 2008 Integra Coal engaged Pegasus to manage the site induction training for staff and contractors. Integra Coal acknowledged that Pegasus was an expert in the field and had an impressive track record for reliability and first class customer service.
At the same time Integra Coal asked Pegasus to implement its Onsite Track Easy program to schedule inductions and maintain these new records. All existing and new staff were issued with Onsite Track Easy access card and logpoints were established at the Integra Mine sites.
To help drive this program, and keep abreast of future compliance related activity, Pegasus was also asked to supply a site administrator through our Safety Division to work on site supporting the Integra HST (Health, Safety & Training) Superintendent. This staff member helps coordinate equipment training, toolbox talks and undertakes other safety administration tasks including maintaining the Integra Onsite Track Easy database.
Our Employment Division also provides another casual employee for another department.
To compliment the newfound emphasis on staff and contractor safety, Pegasus was asked to provide a pre-qualification audit service for external contracting companies. This audit serves as an independent review of each company’s Safety Management System.
In close consultation with Integra, and using the standards established through Integra’s Safety Management System, Pegasus used its resources to develop and administer a company accreditation auditing system that verifies compliance of contractor compliance and legal requirements in the following areas:
These audits are conducted at the contracting company premises, can be done as part of a pre-tender selection process and include regular reviews. The audit also covers the requirements of relevant statutes and standards including the NSW Occupational Health and Safety Act 2000, relevant parts of the Occupational Health and Safety Regulation 2001, the Coal Mines Health and Safety Act 2002 and Coal Mines Health and Safety Regulation 2006.
Integra Coal was initially undertaking its contractor capability audits in house which was time consuming and involved extensive document handling and record keeping. Appointing an industry specialist such as Pegasus, using web-based technology, ensures accuracy, speed and transparency.
In the past two years we’ve completed in excess of 800 pre-qualification audits for various clients, including over 60 for Integra Coal, as our systems facilitate fast and efficient correspondence between all parties.
Each year Pegasus conducts around 12,000 induction sessions for our client’s employees, contractors and suppliers. In peak times we average 100 a day. This means we know how to on-board people efficiently and effectively.
When appointed to the Integra Coal business Pegasus developed a customised face-to-face induction module in record time and have assisted the on-boarding on almost 2000 new employees and contractors since that time.
Onsite Track Easy is industry leading, web-based software that (via strategically located logpoints) uses either photo ID cards or fingerprint technology to monitor staff and contractor access and movement. It checks mandatory contractor details, provides a time and attendance record and automatically calculates work hours to manage fatigue. It reports in real time and records can be accessed and viewed 24/7, 365 days a year.
OnsiteTrack Easy maximises visibility across all contractors, staff and visitors at the both the underground and open cut mine sites and provides an accurate and transparent record of all safety related information in real time across all sites allowing a clear and accurate view of any exposure to risk.
Integra staff and contractors can also move between sites easily, depending on their competencies and site access credentials, because all cards and logpoints are recognised globally.
Our depth and breadth of expertise means we can cover all the bases when it comes to managing risk and compliance.
And we work as a team, between our own Divisions and with our clients.
Our Onsite Track Easy software and hardware provides the tool to manage the Safety Management System and the Pegasus Safety Division develops and delivers generic and site specific safety inductions and pre qualification audits for contractors and staff at Integra Coal’s mining operations.
Via this integrated approach to safety, Integra Coal is able to:
“We value our strong business relationship with Pegasus and see many synergies between the way they integrate their different divisions into their services and they way we manage our Open Cut, Underground and CHPP operations. They are a nice fit for our business,” said Integra Coal Sustainability Manager, Geoff Mackenzie.
