You have been tasked to find a solution for your WHS challenges. You have done your research and identified an efficient technology platform to suit your company’s particular needs. So how do you convince a budget conscious management team that they should invest their time and resources into your solution?

While the health and safety of workers is a paramount concern for nearly every business in Australia, budget distribution can sometimes be a direct challenge for safety professionals – particularly when it comes to technology adoption.

There are, however, some very effective strategies you can employ to improve senior management buy-in and speed up the process of internal approvals.

1. Identify the Current Gaps and Potential Risks

First, there needs to be a why to your proposition. Often times, identified risks and challenges in worker safety are not always visible from the surface, and management may not even be aware of them.

Presenting a case for the difficulties your business is facing – whether it be excessive administration burdens or more serious and direct threats like potential legal breaches – is the most important first step. Keep your analysis direct and clear and use firsthand examples if possible.

2. Create a Case for Financial Viability

Having management understand the difficulties and risks you are presenting is one thing, but convincing them that the investment into your solution will be worthwhile can be just as challenging. This is where your research comes in!

  • Create a value analysis and show potential ROI
  • Display how much time and cost savings can be made after implementing an integrated third-party platform.
  • Demonstrate how something like a simple competency database can save countless administrative hours spent on spreadsheets and follow ups.

3. Utilise Real Life Examples and Build Trust

You have presented a clear, evidence-based cased for implementing a workforce safety software solution, and now need to explain why the platform you have selected is the right one for your business.

Case studies can be a great resource to show how other businesses in your industry have implemented and found success through a software solution.

Similarly, being able to have direct, exploratory conversations with a software provider can often ease the concern of an impersonal, one size fits all solution.
